About Atlanta, GA
Nestled in the heart of Fulton County, the sprawling city of Atlanta is the heart and soul of Georgia. It is both the capital of the state, as well as the most populous city with an estimated population of 447,841 as of 2013, though the outlying metropolitan area is home to 5.5 million individuals, making it the ninth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. Though it was not established until the early 19th century, Atlanta quickly became a cultural and economic hub; today, the city boasts a significant impact on global commerce, technological research, education, media and art, ranking 36th worldwide for its gross domestic product of $270 billion. Built across 134 square miles in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Atlanta has the highest elevation of any major city east of the Mississippi River. The majority of the city was destroyed during the Civil War, which has caused Atlanta to develop an architectural style that is unique amongst other southern cities. Even so, efforts for historic preservation and rehabilitation have allowed several historical neighborhoods to survive. Though it has become renowned as a center for the arts, Atlanta also has a bustling technological sector. In fact, it contains the fourth-largest concentration of information technology jobs in the country, and is the fastest-growing city for those types of employment opportunities. Research universities located in Atlanta include Georgia State University, Emory University and Morehouse School of Medicine.
Atlanta, GA will host the 2018 Southeast BIO Investor & Partnering Forum. This event attracts thought leaders and investors from all over the United States.
