Founded by scientists in 1990 as a private corporation, Animal Biotech Industries, Inc. (ABI) was established to support the biomedical research community. For the last 30 years, ABI has been supplying them with live high-quality research porcine models, as well as high-quality post mortem tissues, organs, and glands.
Located in Doylestown, PA, ABI is operated by scientific professionals who have dedicated themselves to producing superior animals and tissues as well as superior service.

PORCINE TISSUE for LOS ANGELES/ORANGE COUNTY RESEARCH LABS
ABI research swine are raised in a large, modern isolated breeding and growing swine complex in Bucks County, PA. To maintain the highest standards of health and genetics, all Yorkshire crossbred pigs are managed by professional porcine specialists and veterinarians.
- All growing areas are state-of-the-art, climate-controlled buildings.
- Growing pigs receive special diets formulated on the farm for each age and weight group according to the NRC (National Research Council) (1983) recommendations
All operations meet and exceed, the guidelines outlined in the following:
- Animal Welfare Act,2005
- The Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Ag. Research and Teaching, 1988.
OUR HEALTHY BREEDING AND RESEARCH SWINE HERDS
- ABI monitors the breeding herd annually for brucellosis and pseudorabies, and has tested negative since 1994.
- The herd also tests negative for Salmonella Species.
- All production herd animals are vaccinated for Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS), Circovirus and Swine Influenza Virus (SIV).
- Prior to breeding, the breeding herd is wormed with Ivomec and vaccinated for Leptospirosis, Erysipelas and PRRS.
- Young research swine receive iron at three days of age. They are vaccinated for Rhinitis, Mycoplasma and Hemophilus Pneumonia. At weaning, young research swine are wormed with Fenbendazole.
- The pigs continue to receive Fenbendazole every four weeks until they grow out of the sales inventory weight range as to prevent internal parasite infestation and larval migration.
- The ABI research swine herd has tested negative for Malignant Hyperthermia (MH). All genetics introduced into the herd are free of the MH (Stress) gene.
ABI has high-quality Yorkshire Crossbred research pigs available at all ages, sexes and weights, all year-round.
Porcine Tissue Shipping to Los Angeles/Orange County Facilities
All Animal Biotech Industries, Inc., post mortem pig tissues are harvested fresh according to Los Angeles/Orange County client specifications and are immediately chilled at 35-37 degrees Fahrenheit. ABI maintains this temperature throughout the tissue processing, packaging and shipping procedures until they reach the client facility to prevent tissue degradation.
- All transportation of ABI’s post mortem tissues is done via FedEx from Doylestown, PA.
- To ensure that all parties stay informed throughout the shipping process, clients are included in the inner tracking circle with FedEx until the tissue is received.
- We closely monitor client packages to be sure they are not held up during the delivery process.
ABI can provide live animal models and porcine cadavers within a 400-mile radius of Bucks County, PA where our pigs are raised. Live animal models and porcine cadavers are also carefully transported using our own fleet of specialized delivery trucks. Learn more about live animal and porcine cadaver transport here.

Our Facilities
The buildings that make up ABI’s multipurpose research swine complex were built with the future in mind. There are separately isolated areas for breeding, gestation, weaning, growing and holding animals.
The purpose is to increase production in order to meet the demands of our clientele and to create an atmosphere that allows ABI to produce the healthiest research swine in the industry.
